Hormone-sensitive lipase (EC 3.1.1.79, HSL), also previously known as cholesteryl ester hydrolase (CEH), sometimes referred to as triacylglycerol lipase, is an enzyme that, in humans, is encoded by the LIPE gene. HSL is an intracellular neutral lipase capable of hydrolyzing a variety of esters. The enzyme has a long and a short form. The long form is expressed in steroidogenic tissues such as testis, where it converts cholesteryl esters to free cholesterol for steroid hormone production. The short form is expressed in adipose tissue, among others, where it hydrolyzes stored triglycerides to free fatty acids.

Western blot analysis of Phospho-Hormone sensitive lipase (S660) on different lysates with Rabbit anti-Phospho-Hormone sensitive lipase (S660) antibody (HA723195) at 1/2,000 dilution.
Lane 1: Mouse white adipose tissue lysate Lane 2: Rat white adipose tissue lysate Lane 3: Mouse white adipose tissue lysate, the membrane treated with λpp for 1 hour

4-20% SDS-PAGE gel.
Proteins were transferred to a PVDF membrane and blocked with 5% NFDM/TBST for 1 hour at room temperature. The primary antibody (HA723195) at 1/2,000 dilution was used in 5% NFDM/TBST at 4℃ overnight. Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG - HRP Secondary Antibody (HA1001) at 1/50,000 dilution was used for 1 hour at room temperature.
