IL-17家族由至少六种促炎细胞因子组成，它们共享保守的半胱氨酸结结构，但在N末端发散。IL-17家族成员是以二聚体形式分泌的糖蛋白，可诱导局部细胞因子产生并将粒细胞募集到炎症部位。IL-17由IL-15和IL-23诱导，主要存在于活化的CD4 + T细胞中，不同于Th1或Th2细胞。IL-17F与IL-17最同源，但仅由活化的单核细胞中的IL-23诱导。IL-17B 结合 IL-17B 受体，但不结合 IL-17 受体;它与IL-17D最同源，IL-17D由静息CD4 + T细胞和CD19 + B细胞表达。IL-17E主要由Th2细胞产生，并将嗜酸性粒细胞募集到肺组织中。IL-17C的表达模式非常有限，但在成人前列腺和胎儿肾脏库中已被检测到。
